Listen: Veil Of Light – Pale Eyes

The day has come when Veil Of Light finally got the run-up to his forthcoming debut-album released. Together with the Swedish label Beläten, five remixes and one original track have been put up digitally. Since there’s still about a month left until “Ξ” – the full album signed Veil Of Light. A.R.M., Ghost Actor, S S S S, Distel and Th. Thot have remixed four tracks — five if you include “Pale Eyes” — from the forthcoming album, which are “Falling Apart“, “Martyr“, “In Ruins” and “They Said“. When judging on the only available track, it feels great to realize how far he’s come from his earlier releases. It seems like he’s matured even more and the music sounds more organic. Even though a drum-machine is present at all times, the riffs seem even more melancholic, when tuning in to “Pale Eyes“.

Judging from the remixes, they’ve all done a great job in their own peculiar way. Even though my preferred remixes have been created by Distel and Th. Thot – the others are okay if you like subdued atmospheres. S S S S are more like Distel, keeping the mythic environment alive and shapeshifting away from the calmness. Abiding by no other rules than what is set up by the rhythm. The industrialized mammoth that is coated with a layer of noisyness feels like smoke clouding your eyesight – you’re caught in the middle of a tense situation. Distel on the other hand keep at their signature sound, keeping their original rhythms but straying away from the atonal sound for a more melodic chanson. The melodies are otherwise not as prominent and clean. When you get to the end, the deep baseline takes you out of bound and into a completely meditative setting.

The favorite of all remixes is clearly stated by Herr Thot himself. Th. Thot is Thomas himself, stirring up a whirlwind together with a static rhythm and simple melody that slowly progresses and in itself give an added value to the song. Now that I haven’t heard the original track, it is hard to state how true it is. But I really like how the manipulated vocals add a layer of melody and harmonics – that wouldn’t pack the same punch without it. All in all it’s a wonderful free release that Beläten is generous enough to give out before the “real” release is put out to the masses. Not to mention how the combination of emerging artists and steadfast champions make it a total brawl. Veil Of Light will release his debut-album “Ξ” on the 7th of November which will be the first ever vinyl-release Beläten have ever done. While you’re waiting for that release you can download this digital release for free.

Stream: Veil Of Light – Cold Skin

Finally, the latest album that Veil Of Light has put out there is up for grabs. “Cold Skin” not only takes you into another dimension with the music at hand, it also proves that the Zürich-born project can be done single-handedly. Of course, he’s had the help of Viktor Ottosson when it comes to mastering, and Edition GRIS when it comes to releasing. But when you think of it, it’s kind of impressing that Michael Ho (Veil Of Light) has managed to do something only a band should be able to do. Everything about it reminds you of the past, yet in a more callous form. Nothing is about nostalgia, but it is obvious that the influences are put apart and put together again – so he could have something to play with. The almost ethereal and shoegazing sound that he graces you with in “Treasure“, to the slower and more gripping dark rock anathema of “Cinereous” – pave way for a whole new way of doing it, without copying the way it’s been done before. Not to mention the hazing atmosphere that “Into The Night” gives off. It’s as if you’d pick up a demo from yesteryear’s crazily underrated gothic outfits, put into the 21st century, done without the cheesiness of it. I must say that I like demos, but I like this even more. There’s something about the chastised atmosphere that makes you want to swing your arms around, but not too much – so you don’t embarrass yourself. What am I really talking about? I don’t know by know, because I’m so enthralled by it. I must say that this is something you should consider buying. If you buy it, you’ll have to be quick, because it’s limited to 200 copies. When you buy it, you get a download-coupon to the other two tracks. You can buy it from Edition GRIS over here, and stream it down below.

Exclusive Premiere: Veil Of Light – Cold Skin

Don’t scream, just listen. This is something out of the ordinary, as usual, on Invisible Guy. I don’t know if you could say that it actually is something out of the ordinary, if it happens that frequently. But what I meant about that was the following: we’re giving you an exclusive, once again. This time around, there’s a difference. The one-man project Veil Of Light from Zürich, Switzerland. Last we heard of him, he had released his self-titled cassette on the much revered Swedish label Beläten. Now he’s up for another release, this time a two-tracked 7¨ by the same name as “Cold Skin“, will be put out on the Swiss label Edition GRIS. Invisible Guy have gotten the opportunity to premiere the track “Cold Skin” from this two-tracked single, which comes with two extra songs in a download code – if you buy it from Edition GRIS. The vinyl-release is limited to 200 copies, so you’d better hurry. When it comes to the sound, you can clearly hear that this project clearly has matured a lot since his self-titled release. Especially with the track “Cold Skin“, you can hear the agonizing ordeal that is his dark mantra – repeated over and over again. Shed your skin as you transform in the crystal clear, but sturdy atmosphere, that Veil Of Light have produced with this song. Enjoy yourselves with the first taste from this release, as you listen to those dark melodies take an upper-cut with their slowdive into oblivion. Stream the track exclusively from Invisible Guy and share it whenever you’d like to introduce your fellow man to this promising project.

Beläten and Invisible Guy presents: Shadow Rite – A Beläten Mixtape!

Beläten-Shadow-Rite

Beläten have long been a proponent of Invisible Guy, or at least as long as we’ve been collaborating with each other. Thomas Ekelund is the head of this gargantuan Swedish label. It seems larger then it is, but it actually is what it seems. Invisible Guy have been a proponent of Beläten, since it’s one of the best and most exquisite labels today. It also makes me proud that it comes out of Sweden, my homestead. Earlier, he’s mixed the mixtape “Visions and Light“. This mixtape is the second one in these unofficial “series“. With 50% forthcoming material that’s going out on Beläten later this year, mixed with the majestic wonders of aufnahme + wiedergabe, La Forme Lente, Malignant Records and Avant!. With a great feature, which you’ll enjoy – a world premiere for a Trepaneringsritualen track, which will be out on Malignant Records later this year. Dance in the flaming pyre, embrace the rites of power, thrown into barren landscapes – is your ego being annihilated, in the Shadow Rite.

Invisible Guy and Beläten constitute some of the most powerful forces coming out of Sweden as we speak. Which brings me to introduce this collaboration with Beläten to you people, so that you can enjoy some exclusive songs from forthcoming releases. But do also enjoy those other songs that have been carefully selected to be featured in this mixtape. His legacy returns to my sphere once again, as his selection empowers the slumbering soul of the awaited Autumn.
