Notes and Bolts is a relatively new independent label in the Chicago area, started in January of 2012. When it comes to the label itself, they’ve got a unique feature. They put out music that is and comes from Chicago, they don’t release anything else. Compromised of a few pretty anonymous people, they’ve also started up a podcast-series for the label itself. Accordingly, they like the “weird“, “spectacular” and “bizarre“. When it comes to the label, they say they’re 67% D.I.Y. and 100% independent. Since I stumbled upon them by accident, I decided to interview one of the label-heads, and his name is Kriss. I asked him about the origin of the label, why they’re only 67% D.I.Y., what goes on behind the scene and many more things that you’ll simply have to read and digest.
Caress your body, feel your brain floating around. It’s not messy, it’s not careless – rather; dreamy and lush. The duo architecture compose melodies that can be considered clandestine. Furthering our destiny, towards something higher than just the category titled “pop“. Somewhere in between the sincere analogue experience and the digitalis futurism that is blended through the cracks of the music. Faithful, whispering, psychedelic – but also filled with concrete and raw emotions. Downbeat when they have to, upbeat when they see the sun. Albeit gazing through a layer of pouring rain. Rhythmically, they utilize the best they themselves can offer. As the melodies are played, you do heed to the rhythmic notion that they deliver with an utmost arch towards the naive. Don’t look, because it might hit you. Just feel how the music is siphoned from architecture, into your own mind. Wind down, relax a little bit and just take it in. It might be a grandiose experience at large, but you’ll also find pockets where you can breathe. This is their newly released 7¨ titled “diamond mind“, featuring the two songs “diamond mind” and “bb beware“. Released by Notes and Bolts, coming out on the 17th of April in physical format. Also, they will soon release a full-length album.
Variegated Heart is a live-sessions of performances conducted by the band THIN HYMNS. This is the first part of three, so you’ll get more where that came from. They’re a psychedelic pop-induced phenomenon based in Chicago, that blend genres from afar and wide. Currently in the process of releasing their coming album, “Black Waters“, they also performed live in their home-studio at Hotel Earth in Chicago, Illinois. Their EP will be released by Sanzimat International, on the 9th of April. You’ll hear more of them in the next couple of days, but take your time and listen to the wonders that be. Pop can be so much more then the static and linear approach, this is something in between ambient, psychedelia, folk, neo-classical and underproduced but carefully oriented pop-twists with a melodic body. As you’ll find out, so watch their live-show here on Invisible Guy as you go about your day. Do also listen to their one track “All Around You” available at bandcamp.
