From the current hotbed of synthesizer-based acts, mainly the Canadian city of Montreal, there’s more than a resurgence of artists and groups from the 2000’s. From the depths of dungeons, assembled yet again but in exactly the same shape as before, comes a resurrection for …Of Tanz Victims in a digital format—rather then on vinyl. This Montrealian (Québecian-based) group had their peak during the 1980’s—then associated with the independent label and store (now defunct) Bunker Records—not to be confused with the Netherlands-based “acid-house” label with the same name. It consisted of the members Robert de la Carignan (Robert Mailloux) on guitar, bass and vocals, Denis Wooty (Dany Wauthy) and Roy Batty (Roy Batty) on synthesizers, drum-machine and vocals, with Sat W. Ford (Stefan Figiel/Stephan Faulkner) sampling, percussion and vocals. Everyone in this trio contributed with their voice for the project. Now they’ve put out their first single “Fighting False God“, and their fourth album “Haunting the Empire“—as a digitally buy-able and downloadable item for your consumption.

Their rather shady description on their Bandcamp-page suggests a contrast in between a real identity and a fake one, all for the purpose of entertaining theories on the origination of the project—but mainly questions about their identity. We don’t really want to find it out. Since their original releases on vinyl seem to have held quite a nice quality, there’s no reason to believe that the music have been re-mastered for this purpose—just digitized. But who really knows. The name of their project is equally ridiculous and fascinating. Not to mention how much more fascinating their music is, which seems to dwell in between an avant-garde take on industrial, electronic body music, noise and electro. Those main influences bring forth assorted non-electronic music with overt electronic ingredients—masterfully utilized in total synergy. We give our warmest recommendation for this group and hope this return bring them back with more interesting material—heads up to any and every re-issuing label out there. Exclusive Premiere: Feral Trash – No Avail

We know that you’re probably having a rough Monday. It might not be a terrible one, but it’s always hard to cope with going back to your routines after the weekend. Therefore we’ve got a treat for you which you might or might not enjoy. Feral Trash is an American band that combines rock’n’roll and melodious dark punk into a nice whirlwind of emotional statements. Whether they do it with their copious riffs or the drumming, with their lyrics or their vocals – doesn’t matter. Their wholeheartedness could be heard in their first release “Dead Eyes“, which came out in 2013. Being stationary at Dirt Cult Records gave them a possibility to release something new a year later. The label originally started out in 2006 by the hands of Chris Mason and his friend Dillon – but he left shortly afterwards and since then the operations have been managed by Chris. So mainly, the label utilizes itself within the confinements of punk – meaning everything from post-punk, rock’n’roll, melodic punk, “regular” punk – and other genres which can be knitted to “punk“.

Now, a year later Feral Trash are going to be releasing their debut-album “Trashfiction” with the help of DIrt Cult Records. The frontman Eric Neurotic, whom also can be heard in the band Fear Of Lipstick, is involved in labels who are alike to what his band is releasing an album on – namely It’s Alive Records and P. Trash Records. Everything comes around now and then – full circle. Which is just good because that prooves his interest and passion for those genres. Anyway, “Trashfiction” will be released on the 26th of October. Repartiseraren is collaborating with Dirt Cult Records for the first time, giving you the opportunity to exclusively stream the tenth song from their debut-album, titled “No Avail“. Listen to it down below and if you’re interested, see to it that you buy the physical vinyl. The vinyl is limited to 300 copies, whereas 100 are on color vinyl.

Lyssna: J.S. Aurelius / Marie Davidson – Split 7¨

Aldrig har jag varit så mycket för Marie Davidson som nu. Egentligen var jag inte särskilt imponerad över “Perte D’Idéntite” som släpptes på Weyrd Son Records i mitten av året. Men att hon nu tillsammans med J.S. Aurelius, främst känd för det originella skivbolaget Ascetic House och som är en medlem i gruppen Destruction Unit, gör en split tillsammans – kan bara innebära en sak: förändring. Vilket i sin tur innebär att “L’Espoir Est Mon Sentiment Le Plus Noir” blir en av de första låtarna som jag kan känna är acceptabla. Även om hennes tidigare alster inte skinit likt solen, så gör denna låt att man återigen börjar tro på att hon kan leverera någonting stabilt. Atmosfären är alarmerande, den är instinktiv och primitiv på en och samma gång; lägg till en stabil rytm med synthar som gradvis stegrar upp och sedan faller ner likt furor. Under låtens gång så blir man mer och mer på hugget, man börjar undra om fru paranoia gömmer sig bakom gardinerna eller inte.

Även om man kan påstå att “Vaste Obscurité” – som levereras med fransk låttitel såklart, innehåller en hel del spänning – så slappnar man av efter att ha fått igång sitt system. J.S. Aurelius låter en avskalad ljudmiljö utvidga mina sinnen. Det känns som om man flyter i ett orörbart tillstånd. Man bara existerar för att höra vad det är han kan ge en och ens sinnen. En ljusglimt kommer lite då och då, ibland hör man ett sprak, vid nästa hörn så öppnar sig  hela universum för en. Om man inte redan vid låt nummer ett på denna spliten har öppnat upp sig själv för musiken så kommer man inte att tycka om den. Däremot måste jag ge dem att de är skickliga musiker och kan det här med att bygga upp ljudmiljöer; för att sedan rasera allt. Men det finns fortfarande kvar någon slags mening i spillrorna av det som varit. Denna split-7:a släpps på vad jag antar är upptakten till ett performance, men som även verkar vara ett skivbolag vid namn Neuromodulation.

Den 26:e September går en live-show av stapeln vid namn “Mysanthropologie“, där The Hand In The White Glove, Klondike, La Naegleria, Police Quest, Ater Charta och Unstained By Thought uppträder. Detta är dock ingenting som har med Ascetic House att göra, utan snarare har allt att göra med Neuromodulation – där samarbeten uppstår när de kan utföras. Watch: Roladex – Glass Statuette

Bright colors intertwined with VHS-quality and other psychedelic enjoyment. Together with the technology of yesteryear, Roladex have done good in their homage to where their influences come from. With their 80’s-infused synth-pop sound and their carefully executed visual FX create a hypnotic atmosphere which is almost exclusive to music-videos from that decade and before the 2000’s. You will find no polished turds á la big business labels and their PR-menagerie here. Not to mention their song “Glass Statuette” on their newly released split with ((PRESSURES)), which is saturated with the mesmerizing duo’s eloquent vocals whose delivery hypnotize you, as the spastic arpeggio rhythm continually rolls in the foreground – an aquatic melody seduces you. You can’t help but start humming the lyrics in a repetitive fashion. I also think the video captures a bizarre vein that Roladex don’t capture as well with their music, which seems to me when I listen to it to be in all seriousness, but the video itself adds that tongue-in-cheek vibe that music-videos used to give. Either because they were abhorrent in their silliness, or simply delivering a positive nerve in the musical delivery – which in Roladex’s case is true – as you also can’t help but smile.

It would’ve been great if this split-release could’ve featured a music-video by ((PRESSURES)), too. Because then it would’ve been more than two songs that you keep on the repeat. But with that said, I think the track “The Voices” complements “Glass Statuette” very well. I think ((PRESSURES)) are the ones whom deliver the futuristic touch to this release, as the B-Side coincides with Roladex’s passionate nostalgic reflections both in track and video. “The Voices” almost touch cold-wave territory, but instead of going into the coldness and reflections of that – there’s a clear disco-vibe to the whole she-bang. With vocals that soothe your soul, together with a steadfast drum-machine rhythm and cosmic synthesizers – I would say that the A-Side gives more hope for us in the future. Though a lot of melancholy can be heard in both tracks, the bleaker side is when Roladex comes on, but I’m not sure anymore after having seen their music-video. All of this might be my hypnotized me talking, but they’ve charmed me with their other side of the coin. Both tracks are complementary as I’ve said, but one wouldn’t stand with the other and they display different characteristics. I just wish they would’ve included the music-video with the release and also made a music-video for ((PRESSURES)) track. That way, their likeness and difference could’ve been visually represented as well as musically.

Since this is a joint release by Medical Records and Disko Obscura, you can either choose to order the limited edition 7¨ in thick transparent yellow, or transparent urochrome vinyl. It’s your choice whether you’d like to go with Medical Records or Disko Obscura, but they both have their unique take on it and if you’re a collector then you should go for them both. Video Premiere: Heroin In Tahiti – Alo

We can present to you the wonderful music-video of the track “Alo“, that Heroin In Tahiti had put up a month ago, as a celebratory gesture for their coming vinyl 7¨ on Yerevan Tapes. “Peplum” is the name of their two-sided release, featuring the title-track “Peplum” on the A-Side, a kind of post-apocalyptic hurrah for an imaginary Ennio Morricone soundtrack, blended with the fururistic gaze of Lee Van Cleef’s rather ghastly face. As we look into matters on our own, the B-Side contains the track “Alo“, which you can listen to in the aforementioned video, as you get to follow them on a trip through rainy landscapes, on their highway to heroin. When it was written, it was originally featured in the exhibition by Phil Collins, called: “In Every Dream Home A Heartache“. In comparison, “Alo” is a more gloomy track which drones into the horrific but steadily engaging sound-scape that would make you awe-inspired even if you’d hear only a bit of it. Lurking in the shadows is the face of them, their clownish demeanor and their samba-like percussion on ecstasy. We suggest you look into the visuals for the first track, whilst you mellow out with the clandestine approach of the first track, as “Peplum” ceases to exist and flows magically into the B-Side. Hear the dreamy sound change into chugging guitars with a horror-themed drowsiness to it.

The release itself will be put out by Yerevan Tapes on a vinyl 7¨ on the 2nd of May. So whilst you wait for this promising release, have a bit of coffee and relax to the music-video which Repartiseraren could harbour to his own channel. It is by no means exclusive, other than for my channel at this time, but it can also be viewed from theirs. As I said in the beginning, this is more of a celebratory gesture for the growth of an organic Nordic themed Repartiseraren, together with the internationalist vibes of Heroin In Tahiti. Exklusiv Premiär: L’obscurité – Are You With Us? (7¨EP)

Tidigare så har L’obscurité varit omskrivna både här på Invisible Guy, men även på en mängd andra ställen. Det var i samband med när de hade släppt sitt första alster “In Silence” på etiketten Ljudkassett!, som de passande nog även fick skina i rampljuset för en stund. Vilket de definitivt har varit väl värda. Tidigare så bestod denna grupp utav duon Tess Törner (Kamikatze, Black Feet) och Richard Folke (Boygirlme), men denna duo har utökats med en trummis, som de verkligen ansåg sig själv behöva. Denne trummis var ingen mindre än Fredrik Berglund, från The Scrags; det Stockholmska psykedeliska folkrockbandet. Denna rekryteringen gjordes eftersom att de ansåg sig vara i behov utav ett större ljud, och detta kunde därefter åtgärdas av denne man. Som bekant så “slog” de igenom med sitt första släpp och har sedan dess spelat live otaliga gånger, så det känns inte mer än rätt att de släpper nytt. Denna gång så har de bestämt sig för att göra det på sin egna, nyskapta etikett, vid namn Svart Ljud Rekords. Släppet ifråga är “Are You With Us?“, och kommer att släppas som en vinyl-sjua nu i Mars. Alla låtar på plattan skrevs utav dem själva år 2013, och de har även mastrat och mixat dessa låtar helt själva. Omslagsbilden som sådan har fotograferats utav Alexander Palm.

De som läser detta blogg-zine kommer därför ha den exklusiva möjligheten att ta del utav hela deras EP innan släpp, och där ingår titelspåret “Are You With Us?“, tillsammans med de tre andra låtarna “Memories“, “In Silence” och “Day & Night“. Deras intressanta blandning utav synthwave och garage rock har gett upphov till vad de själva vill beteckna som “garagewave“. En genre som jag åtminstone inte bekantat mig själv med, men som med deras totala apati utvecklas till en kraft att räkna med. Mörkret har bara tagit sig in över Sverige och landat i L’obscurité, som mycket gärna tar hand om denna onda kraft och använder det i form av häxkonster istället, då de melankoliska partierna fasas in med de energiska syntharna. Helt klart en grupp som man borde ha hållit ögonen på mycket tidigare, men för den som ännu är sömndrucken och inte vill slita sig från sin kaffekopp, så kan jag meddela till er att detta är mycket bättre än koffein. Det är en frisk fläkt, en injektion av något nytt i den annars så tafatta miljö som band likt dessa måste slita sig ur, från första början. Nåväl, nog om det, helt enkelt. I’ve always been interested in the crossover between surf punk, garage and post-punk – but definitely not in that order. Corners is Tracy Bryant, Billy Changer and Rick Mabery from Los Angeles, California. They’ve more or less been around since 2012, when they self-released their first album (and release) “Beyond Way“, which was later on picked up by Lolipop Records and re-released in the same format – namely a cassette, but this time; rather limited. In August last year they released a 7¨ titled “My Baby” which featured the two songs “My Baby” and “Automatic Man“, which were two completely new tracks in their repertoire. Per usual, Lolipop Records released it. Since I didn’t know very much about them until I read more about them, and found them via Bandcamp, they’re actually releasing a new record – which is a split together with Dirt Dress, a band which differs a bit from themselves, but can be counted into the punk-category. They’ve also been around longer. So therefore, I would like to present the track “Pressure” for you, to listen to. There’s both a hollow line between surf punk and its rather energized tempo, and the more callous and dark post-punk, in comparison with the regular garage-rock sounding vocals. Surely, there’s a lot of common ground between the genres, but also uncommon. However, it sounds great and is pretty much what you’d expect with that combination, which makes it worthwhile to listen to. So I urge you to stream the track down below and check Corners out, as well as Dirt Dress.
