Exclusive Premiere: Inneres Gebirge – Do Der Sumer Komen Was

From neo-folk to neo-classical, these years have been formative for different acts within those genres and beyond. One act in particular that stuck in my mind was Inneres Gebirge, with their clear historic anchoring and fierce folk-music that transcends into different genres as well, but also into neo-folk territory. This German act released their first debut-album in 2012, which went by the title of “Schlafender König“, which spans from The Early German Romantics, to virtually different times in an historic context – that can be connected to their works. Most notably the musical interpretation of Uwe Lammla’s poem “Schwarzer Wein“, from the track with the same name, taken from the book by the same poet – which goes by the name of “Idäisches Licht“, from 2006. Which is interesting, since they grab what they can from different time-periods, with the main focus on Germany – all the time. This is, however, just a brief story taken from what you’ll have to buy to discover – that is buying their CD.

They were also a part of Heathen Harvest’s compilation “Samhainwork I“, with a track that isn’t related to the CD at all, namely “Holy Thursday“. The compilation was released in 2012, the same year, but later in October. Members of Inneres Gebirge are also closely related, or part of the band Aeldaborn. What makes them unique is what has been said before, it is that they interpret different parts that create a unique view, into the folklore that exists and the folklore that they bring to life within their music. I must say that this is only a brief explanation of what they’re about, and where they are coming from, which is just scratching on the surface. The members of this group are Sepp Funkel, S. Dante, Thomas Lueckewerth, Ron Con Koma, Mari, Michael Weinstein and Fräulein Stein. Sepp Funkel and Thomas Lueckewerth are also a part of Aeldaborn. So, with that said, let’s give you what can be given. In a collaboration with Deggial Records / Edition Roter Drache, the Invisible Guy brings you the track “Do Der Sumer Komen Was” from their aforementioned release “Schlafender König“. I am doing this because of the fact that there weren’t many tracks up by them to begin with, so why wouldn’t there be some kind of collaboration to bring you a track? Well, here it is for your joy and pleasure. I picked the track I find to be the best on the album. Listen: Corners – Pressure

I’ve always been interested in the crossover between surf punk, garage and post-punk – but definitely not in that order. Corners is Tracy Bryant, Billy Changer and Rick Mabery from Los Angeles, California. They’ve more or less been around since 2012, when they self-released their first album (and release) “Beyond Way“, which was later on picked up by Lolipop Records and re-released in the same format – namely a cassette, but this time; rather limited. In August last year they released a 7¨ titled “My Baby” which featured the two songs “My Baby” and “Automatic Man“, which were two completely new tracks in their repertoire. Per usual, Lolipop Records released it. Since I didn’t know very much about them until I read more about them, and found them via Bandcamp, they’re actually releasing a new record – which is a split together with Dirt Dress, a band which differs a bit from themselves, but can be counted into the punk-category. They’ve also been around longer. So therefore, I would like to present the track “Pressure” for you, to listen to. There’s both a hollow line between surf punk and its rather energized tempo, and the more callous and dark post-punk, in comparison with the regular garage-rock sounding vocals. Surely, there’s a lot of common ground between the genres, but also uncommon. However, it sounds great and is pretty much what you’d expect with that combination, which makes it worthwhile to listen to. So I urge you to stream the track down below and check Corners out, as well as Dirt Dress.

Exclusive Premiere: Distel – Japanese Eyes

Just when you thought it would’ve ended, it just started. You might’ve anticipated this, but for a later release, not up on Invisible Guy at all. They take it to a whole other level with their grainy angst-pop, filling it to the brink with menacingly sublime chants, rumbling baselines and shockingly heavy drums. That’s how it goes when the unorthodox mixture of minimalism, noise and dark wave gets taken to a whole other level. Welcome to the world of urban Tokyo meets the feudal Japan. Knitting together both in one atmosphere, making it even more fascinating as you try to decipher what it’s all about. You get the interpretative prerogative, lent to you all so easily by Distel. Yes, it was them whom you’ve all waited for so long. Since their release; “Puur“, on Enfant Terrible last year, you couldn’t hold it together and simply wanted some more. At least a sign of life, a sign of a new release on the horizon. That’s what you all got, but you didn’t get to hear anything.

It was only one label who could proceed to take the task of releasing their tracks after their presence on Enfant, and who could it be if not: Beläten. As this cassette is the third of the three cassettes that are being released in the near future, this atmospheric and sublime entrance into a new world of Distel, is pleasantly arriving so you can enjoy them when they’ve taken off their masks. Their stature in the catalog is of the runic inscription, and rune itself, Peorð (). It denotes the sound “p” in the Elder Futhark runic alphabet, and goes by the aforementioned name in the Anglo-Saxon rune poem. It does, however, not appear in the Younger Futhark. The meaning of this word in Germanic could be referring to: “pear-tree”, in the context of “recreation and amusement”. Well, I’m here to tell you, it might be amusing and interesting to get something new out of this duo, but it sure as hell doesn’t display anything amusing. No, its cloudy, sublime and horrifying. But its mystique is what makes you wander into their world all to much, just to have the trap-door shut right behind you. It’s enigmatic and sullen.

But enough of the talking, let’s get to business. Invisible Guy is proud to give you the track “Japanese Eyes” from the forthcoming release “Ultra2012“, that is being put out there for the world by Beläten on the 31st of January. This is probably one of the most anticipated releases, since you folks got a hold of the news that it’s actually coming out. One thing must be told, and that is that five of the tracks are interpretations on Mekanik Komando, and only one is an original track by them. This is because they wanted to pay homage to the Ultra movement of the late 70’s and 80’s, all this was encompassed by the first of four Ultra2012 events that were held in Dutch cities in 2012. If you know this background-story, it would be good to check out “Japanese Eyes” by Mekanik Komando, an electropunky and funky trip that was unleashed with the “It Would Be Quiet In The Woods If Only A Few Birds Sing” album, from 1981. But you now get the opportunity to stream and listen to the interpretation that Distel made of the track “Japanese Eyes“, as you can stream it exclusively from Invisible Guy and we hope that it will make your day a little bit better, or worse. After last years’ magnificent Puur LP on Enfant Terrible, Distel return with a cassette featuring five interpretations of Mekanik Kommando and one original composition, all made for the first of four Ultra2012 events held across four Dutch cities in 2012.

Performers were asked to in some way pay homage to the original Ultra movement of the late 70’s and early 80’s, and Distel choose to do so by covering five songs from Mekanik Kommando’s debut LP »It Would Be Quiet In The Woods If Only A Few Birds Sing« from 1981. The closing original Onde was used as a sort of theme song for their performance at the event in Nijmegen.

In the hands of Distel these songs are transformed from jittery white-boy punk-funk into menacing, pulsating krankheitspopmusik Robotic voices call from deep beneath the layers of thundering bass. Euphoric rave arpeggios pierce through the din of squealing analog synthesizers and urges the listener to dance, or at the very least move in unison.

Finally, the four releases that were incorporated into the MMXIV Winter catalog at Nostilevo, are released. Neal Samples may be the one behind the moniker Xakatawaga, as you otherwise know him as Tollund Men, but also as the proprietor of Bleak Environment – an independent label, based out of America – that specializes in industrial, noise and black metal. The repetitive motion that is released with “Vol. 1“, which is the first release under this moniker, reminds me a lot of schranz techno, except the fact that the basis for it is more or less based on the off-shoot of techno, mixed in with industrial experimentalism and rhythmic noise. Bob your head from one place to another, as this bleak and repetitive notion keeps on rolling by – watered down by psychedelic hallucinations. Conjugating with the rough winds beneath, extracting and putting in place – what makes industrial so harsh and barren in the first place. Transgressing the narrative that techno is only techno, crossing over into unorthodox territories to make the combination even more wild and interesting. Four tracks that span up to 23 minutes in length, if added together. Featured by their names, in correct order; “Uay“, “Blue Soul“, “Cygne” and “Nu Contact”. Buy this release for 7 dollars if you want a cassette, or 6 dollars if you want it digitally. I’d suggest you getting the physical release instead of the digital, since it’s only 1 dollar more and you get something you can hold on to.

Being one of the most interesting releases in this batch of four, Blue Krishna makes the best of what you can take from new-wave and slap their own electronic vibe onto it. It’s in the atmosphere of industrial as such, making use of the experimental nature, forcing their own synth-popish backstab, into the psychedelic trench. Alex Jarson from Body Of Light, which can be heard when you listen to it, shapes his own form of badness through Krishna. Yes, that was a really lame joke. But influences from that project can be heard in this as well. Having been tightly affiliated with Ascetic House under his aforementioned moniker, made it to Chondritic Sound in the end, and transformed into Bad Krishna for his place to be – which came to be Nostilevo. The project delivers the most interesting differentiations, as lavish synth-pop with industrial drums is turning its way into your consciousness. Leaving you with some hope, since it’s only beginning. With a ceremonious chant applied to a dance-rhythm infused into the harsh landscapes of industrial. Clocking in at 23 minutes, roughly, when all songs are added up. The album is titled “Repeat Until Death” and feature the four tracks; “Can’t See The Line“, “Taman Shud“, “Mayflower Spring” and “Rising Sun (It’s Just Beginning)“. Buy the digital release for 6 dollars and the physical cassette for 7 dollars. It seems like a lot comes out from Los Angeles, and that a lof ot it never leaves. But we’re now left with Bad Krishna. Even though it is hard to understand, it’s probably among one of the more unique sounds I’ve heard in my life.

This is one of those projects that you wouldn’t care too much about in the beginning, but the more you listened to it, the more it enthralled you. Bad User Experience‘s release “CGi” feature a lot of tracks that have been featured elsewhere, like the track “Look NE Direction” that was on the “Industrialized [FROM] Sense” mixtape that came out last year, here on Invisible Guy. This is a total mind-bender, which allude to the more bizarre sounds that can be fitted into different categories, if at all. There’s certainly a sci-fi influence, which shouldn’t be hard to hear at all, and it basically feels like drifting into a black hole and experiencing it from within – with all the absurdities that come with it. Or maybe, if you’d incorporate the phenomenon déja vu into music-making, with the main difference; of it happening every second that you’re producing anything. Some of it is lo-fi groove in a can, other things are re-hashed hits evolving into an industrial mess of danceable beats. I believe you’ll have to have some kind of substance in you to make any sense of it as a whole. Which is certainly not anything I would recommend, but it seems to be that way. This release has six tracks and they come in the order of: “FORUM“, “The Matrix The Movie“, “BLACK HOLE BRENDAN“, “DESIGNegative“, “Look NE Direction” and “WATSMATTU“. It can be bought digitally for 6 dollars, and physically in the form of a cassette, for 7 dollars.

It’s time for something more outdrawn. In the sense of longer tracks, more specifically. David Allen is the last one in the batch of these four cassette-releases, with his collection of three tracks titled “1188 OST (Sections I​-​III)“, which follows an abstract theme. Gradually shifting from noise in the first section, to claustrophobic industrial in the third section. It gets louder and more noisier, and then it suddenly cools off and gradually shifts to getting even louder. The inherent meaning behind this release is something that is unknown to me. He explores the different modes and settings, in which he makes music with. But this could be considered to be virtual non-music, and someone else should try to explain it more thoroughly. I must say that this release might just be for people whom are interested in experimental and noise, but also in the different subtle changes that can be made within the time-span as long as over 12 minutes. Because some of it I don’t get, and some of it is frightening. If you leave your telephone laying besides the holder, this is probably the noise it would make. Anyway, it clocks in at roughly 30 minutes all-in-all. The tracks are as follows: “Section 1“, “Section 2” and “Section 3“. It can be bought digitally for 6 dollars, and physically in the form of a cassette, for 7 dollars. So if you’re deeply entrenched in noise, this would be something considered well-worth of being bought.

Exclusive Premiere: Dmitry Distant – System Control (Ekman Remix)

The clash of two greater artists is the clash of minimal synth and dark electro. This time, there is no room for an original track, but room for a remix. Two artists that have gained control, two artists that have some thing in common, and some things that are uncommon. As the lavishly created spasmic rhythms that follow a trail emblazoned by the most minimalistic of synth you’d ever lay your hands upon, but at the same time delivering the chaotic atmosphere of electro. Yes, electro was infused in the original version of “System Control“, but it’s even more infused with Ekman‘s style of electro, which has a muddy layer of atmospheric delight – to infect your senses with. There may be similarities between the two, but they’re in no way so similar that it wouldn’t make any difference if he (Ekman) lent a hand to the production. No, he has not produced the track itself, but his analogue remixing has been a similarity to be reckoned with.

When there’s a choice, you’re surely enough berated by Beläten, whom is the master of decision in this case, too. But from the choices he gives you, you must choose wisely. Therefore, even though there’s a rough enforcement from he who’s holding the strings, you can’t help but enjoy yourself. This remix is a part of a bigger picture, of Dmitry Distant’s contribution to the world as such, through his forthcoming release on the label – namely “Le Dérivé De L’Amour“. A four-tracked EP that gives you two original tracks and two remixes. Part of the Beläten-catalog as Jera, referring to the rune Jēran symbolized as the j-rune “” of the Elder Futhark. The meaning of this rune is “season” or “harvest“, and you bet we’ve harvested the best for you, through our options.

From Moscow comes Dmitry Distant with four tracks of mesmerizing analog worship electro. It’s minimal and it’s dark, but underneath the cold melancholy bubbles unbridled passion: passion for the rhythm, passion for the deep bass resonances, passion for the hooks that will continue to ring in your ears for days on end. Le Dérivé De L’Amour is nicely rounded off by two remixes of the track System Control by Beläten favourite Ekman and The Exaltics respectively.

Whilst moving closer to the sound of maniacal industrial, with electronic undertones, The Amount Of Light We Give Off moved in a totally different direction from their demo, with their newly released album “LIST“. The seldom combination of utter destructive electronica and the non-electronic base of post-punk, that they stand upon, this duo has harnessed as much of their development from their first release – as they’ve done with their recent. It’s a combination of the harsh atmospheres given away from the demo, as it is with their development into a colder territory of cold wave. Which their lyrical content can contest, and which their vocals are shouting out. There is also the punk-attitude of a juvenile, soundly giving you the finger whilst standing upon the throne of modern decadence. Anyhow, their image is blackened and it shall remain so, as their sound-scape gradually shifts into a more contemplative and ethereal domain. You could thank their natural pathway into shoegaze and post-rock for that. We’ll be giving you the track “Relationships” from the recently released album “LIST“. Desolate music for a wintry landscape. Nostilevo have already dripped out four previews from the forthcoming Winter catalog. MMXIV (2014) currently features tracks from David Allen, Blue Krishna, Bad User Experience and Xakatawaga. Two of them were also featured on the compilation “The Alliance“. But these previews feature totally new tracks from each one of these constellations, with emphasize on the difference that can be found within the multiple genres that they’re active in. From experimental noise with psychedelic tendencies, and abstract field recordings – to the continuous experimental industrial entrenchment, and minimalistic surrealistic techno with a noisy industrialized motor. Do not miss out on the Wintery delight that Nostilevo brings you now, in the beginning of 2014. There is much to be anticipated, and among that is “11.88 (Sections I-III)” by David Allen and “Repeat Until Death” by Blue Krishna.
