Die Song have been keeping it uptempo for the latest period of time. Since there isn’t going to be a release from this label in some time, there’s a lot of things that have been discussed. These releases are crafted to superiority, and that’s one of the reasons that there’s not going to be a release for a while. When it came to the discussions, it’s my pleasure to announce a preview of a track that is going to be featured on a forthcoming split-release on Die Song. This particular release features The Way To Light and Horders, two differentiating projects – with one aim, which is to be released for winter solstice. One is a one-man project, the other is also a one-man project – by the artist himself, Give Up. The release is being crafted as an exclusive package, that will be extremely limited. By the way, the artwork that is on display here is for promotional purposes, and does not resemble the artwork for the release as such. The track that will be put out for you to preview is “Aghartha“, by The Way Of Light. Imagine yourselves being stuck on the dividing line between atmospheric neo-folk and dark ambient as such, creating the ultimate atmosphere that will make your hands swing up and down for Halloween. A haunting example of how you can successfully combine two genres that I believe haven’t been utilized to its perfection, if even combined as such. Exclusive Premiere: Veil Of Light – Cold Skin

Don’t scream, just listen. This is something out of the ordinary, as usual, on Invisible Guy. I don’t know if you could say that it actually is something out of the ordinary, if it happens that frequently. But what I meant about that was the following: we’re giving you an exclusive, once again. This time around, there’s a difference. The one-man project Veil Of Light from Zürich, Switzerland. Last we heard of him, he had released his self-titled cassette on the much revered Swedish label Beläten. Now he’s up for another release, this time a two-tracked 7¨ by the same name as “Cold Skin“, will be put out on the Swiss label Edition GRIS. Invisible Guy have gotten the opportunity to premiere the track “Cold Skin” from this two-tracked single, which comes with two extra songs in a download code – if you buy it from Edition GRIS. The vinyl-release is limited to 200 copies, so you’d better hurry. When it comes to the sound, you can clearly hear that this project clearly has matured a lot since his self-titled release. Especially with the track “Cold Skin“, you can hear the agonizing ordeal that is his dark mantra – repeated over and over again. Shed your skin as you transform in the crystal clear, but sturdy atmosphere, that Veil Of Light have produced with this song. Enjoy yourselves with the first taste from this release, as you listen to those dark melodies take an upper-cut with their slowdive into oblivion. I got an interesting mail a few weeks ago, submitted by The Amount Of Light We Give Off, yet another new band within the post-punk sphere. This mysterious duo from Germany create what they themselves call “electronic post-punk“. Imagine yourself gazing into the belly of the new wave of post-punk, excitingly hearing an offshoot between post-rock and wonderfully elegant, noisy – post-punk directness. Well, here they are for everyone of you to listen to, and heed their call. A part of this elegance of theirs lies in their utilization of a noise-driven landscape of sound, equated by dreamy synthesizers that screech in between their interesting outlays of vocally out-sprouting wickedness. They released a three-tracked demo not too long ago and wanted to share their sound with a wider audience. Well, this is an oxymoron, as this blog actually is one of the more obscure ones out there and have remained that way until this year. So, we’ll give you the track “At the Vertex of Nothing” as a free download for everyone to enjoy. Hopefully it will reach a lot more people and make them take heed of this band, because from what I hear from their demo – they’ve got a lot of things that could definitely interest people within alternative genres – and labels as well.

Skördetid [Del 1]: Ingen Våg har alltid vågat!

Ingen Våg Kassetter är en Växjöbaserad etikett som gärna släpper det som är lite udda, men även det som är naggat runt kanterna. Som namnet antyder så är det endast kassetter som släpps här, som de släpp jag hade tänkt att recensera men inte kommit fram till förrän nu. Bland dessa kassetter finns det akter som Miljoner Döda, Solo Archivist och Femtekolonnare. När man letar på nätet så hittar man ingen som helst information om upphovsmännen bakom just Miljoner döda, men det är en industrial-akt som specialiserar sig på grovkorniga industriella landskap, tillsammans med en droppe av nihilism – med dystopiska tendenser. Solo Archivist vet jag heller ingenting om, men musiken är representativ för långdragen och lagom abstrakt drone, med den andra foten i industrial. Femtekolonnare är powerviolence samt grindcore i sitt esse, från Växjö, med Fritjof på bas/sång, Jonas på gitarr/sång och Carl på trummor. Nu när det börjar bli skördetid, så får vi en blandning som ni inte kommer att glömma bort imorgon. Dags för er att läsa recensionerna. Review: Női Kabát – Make Room! Make Room!

a1212866862_10Női Kabát have been on the tapestry for a long time, and I am about to disseminate why this might be a classic with longevity, already. Their first release on aufnahme + wiedergabe, titled “Make Room! Make Room!” features two tracks which I’m going to delve into. I’ve listened to both for a long time and haven’t made up my mind if I really wanted to review it. But here it comes, nevertheless.

When you get into it for the first time, the title-track “Make Room! Make Room!” is the first one to loudly come into the picturesque urban sound-scape, with swirling synthesizers and determined drumming. A ravingly good thing is that they manage to set the mood for the track already in the beginning, as the introductory phase of the song isn’t a pain to listen to or get into. Everything seems to be carefully planned out and set in stone, as they move us into it with a groove that could seldom be heard anywhere – or anyhow – in a setting like this, as our modern world seem to have swallowed most of the retro-fantastic vibes they continually deliver in the introduction. Once the characteristics of the song begin to form themselves, they take the shape of a unimaginable synthesizer that sweeps the floor with my emotions. It’s like you’re being swept away by the callousness of the waves that pulsate through your eardrums, as each hit of the synthesizers magical keys seem to be done with ultimate passion. At the same time that it brings dismay to the table, it also brings an angelic touch that is affecting your own logical dissemination. The sound itself re-sounds through layers of drums, that are being assaulted with impudence. These blows that are delivered are perfectly matching the irreversibly tasteful harmonics that let you acknowledge the vibes that are roaring, throughout. When listening to it, you don’t notice the vocals all that much, as you are too enthralled by the environmentally sonic wonderland that is manifesting itself to the highest degree. But that does not take away the importance of Dee Rüsche, whom does an outstanding job at accompanying this perfected toxin that is simply moving outwardly towards you, lunging at you with the painful reminder of total urban decay.

His vocals are filled with passion, as he sinks his virtual teeth into you for a clinging bite that will absolve your cadaverous existence. He is the total reminder of what their quest seem to be, to remind us of what’s actually happening beside us at this moment. Well, it helps to actually know of this so called “mission“, if it actually is one. But one can read their almost apocalyptic turn in the song into this particular subject. It is pretty obvious what the influence might or might not be, but the emotions that this song bring forth in a human being is so remorseless that it isn’t even funny. If anything at all, this song is the pure anthem for Női Kabát. It is their shell, their core – if you will. The further you get into it, the more disgruntled you’d be. As the sonic landscape shift in between hard-hitting drums, fierce and uncontrollable synthesizers, into a more angelic and spiritual voyage that seems to be there to put you to sleep. Not because it is boring, but because every single nerve in your body is hurting. I can’t actually think of anything that is bad about this song, because everything is so perfected – yet so imperfect at the same time. A balance that is hard to actually allow oneself to follow, but I’d imagine that it would’ve taken time. One can actually, for once imagine – that it’s a mold that is not to be re-used once again. They’ve already done their best to shape it into what it’s become, a taste for music, at the same time a taste of reality. A reality I would like to be a part of. There’s no reason to not actually have this song on a list somewhere, maybe even a top-10. What they’ve done here is a reminder of what people should do more often; build up their own room in this world, so make room for Női Kabát.

As if something hasn’t been described enough, we must sadly depart from that wonderful song and make our way to “Industry“, which is the song on the B-side of this 7¨. It feels like it was a good idea to put this song on that side, because it is much harsher and lack a lot of what they delivered with the first song. It sounds like they’ve given up, which is frankly what they’re doing with this song. The metaphysics are colliding with the idea of themselves, which isn’t good at all, because the metaphysics is exactly what makes Női Kabát so great in the first place. But their approach here is more minimal and less bombastic, which takes away a lot from the mixture that could make the track a lot better. Even though it becomes more bombastic in the middle, as the chorus wails into place, it saves the song as such. The rest of it is just a pure mess which most of those that like the more minimalistic touches that they deliver, will froth over and defend to the last man. I actually abhor everything else on the track when I hear the spastic synthesizers coming in and the continual rhythm that is turned on, which makes me check my pulse, as it pulsates to the motion of “Industry“. But in no way can it match the first song on this 7¨, because a lot of their passion seemed to have went into the first song.

Even though some of the passion is returned in the end, it doesn’t make up for some of the wasted seconds that could’ve went into a more passionate landscape of sound. Somehow, it feels like they’ve inverted everything they once held true with the first track, like they’re rebelling against their self. Putting a megalomaniac at the helm, touching us a last time with their quirky synthesizer-laden mattress, telling us to fear not – because they will be back in one shape or another. If you view it as that, much of it makes even more sense. An experimental move to say “sayonara!“, as the ship is sinking into the wreck of humanity – as the oil is spilling over; as we ignite it. Though it has its moments, it doesn’t really recover, but the end is so incredibly alarming that even those of you that have no pulse, must be shaken to your knees. Which is certainly one of the other good parts about this song, but it doesn’t make it into my harbor, at least. I’d rather see the ship sinking with it’s captain, just so he can save the crew and fade away into the blurred ocean – with dignity. However you choose to view this release, it has already become a classic amongst a lot of people. It’s a shame that it hasn’t reached more people, because it has to. Whether you like it as a whole, or simply one song, it is a landmark for the electronic genre as such and music as a whole. Probably one of the best records released this year, even though some of it really doesn’t make it ashore. They’ve made their mark, which should honor them, and more people need to delve into it. Take it, or leave it – because it’s going to be your last chance.

Featured Premieres: Illuminoscillate / Abre Ojos!

Secrets Of Giza is an independent label based out of Santa Barbara, California. They have a small roster, but seem to be very dedicated to what they see as their mission; which is to help the artist be an artist, without the administrative “bullshit” that comes with it. Which helps the artists do what they do best, which is to create music and slowly develop it into what can be called art. Anyway, I was in touch with one of the label-heads of this particular label and we decided that we’d be better off with a double-premiere. Two artists from his roster, namely Illuminoscillate and Abre Ojos, have released their albums not too long ago on Secrets Of Giza. Mind you, you’re in for a treat when it comes to this, if you’re interested in dark ambient, drone, industrial – or anything that could even remotely be considered to be dark. Both artists have a history of releasing albums, so they’ve settled down into what could be their niche. Or have they? Anyway, Illuminoscillate has released “Uniform Wall“, which is the second newest addition to the label. Abre Ojos is the newest addition, an album which have been titled  as “Gates“. As I say new, I’m speaking of those two albums in relation to each other. When it comes to these particular songs, which I’m going to premiere here on this blog-zine, they’re eerie but different. The first premiere which I am going to share with you is from Illuminoscillate, as he delves deeper into the brain-thrusting motions that deliver buzzing saws that will crack your skulls open. It will bleed you out, sonically.

The trackLate November” is all about the icy and dampened coldness that can be called harsh noise, mixed with dark ambient. A colossus doesn’t fall far from the earth as such, when the deliverance is stomping upon your civilization with all its glorious weight. Every bit of this track is about as torturous as its beginning, which is a numbing experience – from the core of the characteristics that Illuminoscillate already patented, but within the realms of dark ambient. It will be to your big dismay as your eardrums are being drilled into with such mercilessness, that you may well not endure it. Really, really harsh jolts of checkered beats, industrial rhythmic and general arrhythmic noisiness, will destroy you. Abre Ojos, on the other hand, enters with his track “Light On Our Foreheads“. There are such contrasts between these two tracks, as he introduces us to a more eerie and illusive musical landscape. We really needed to get away from the harshness for a bit, which is why these two tracks might’ve been handed over. Hear the monumental sighs of the titans that dwell below us. Fear not, because their rage is instilled and they’re our captives. But for how long? Abre Ojos really deliver the needle in a haystack when it comes to precision. It would feel impossible, it might well be impossible – but when he takes over, there are many barriers he’s crossing at the same time. Hear these pounding drums as they sound closer, as they move closer. You should fear, because it’s an impending doom. Better hide yourself, because they’re coming to take over once again. Moving from claustrophobic to a marvelous open landscape of fruitfulness. It might become a little bit stingy, but is in no way as harsh as the track before it. Listen to it with joyous feelings, stream it as you like, because these are the mastered versions directly from the CD’s. “Uniform Wall” came out on the 6th of August and “Gates” was released on the 20th of August. Premiere: Cervello Elettronico – She’s Got Damage

Frequently, we disguise our most delicate passions within a premiere. We’ve rounded up a real treat for you this time, as we’ve gotten a hold of Cervello Elettronico. A multifaceted electronic project that has been up and running since 2001. Manufactured by the man himself, David Christian, whom also is the boss of the label SquareWāv. His latest release will be out on the 21st of October and is titled “Anima Meccanica“, which is being put out by the label Hands Productions. This is a staunch reminder for anyone who’s ever traveled deep into the hole of underground electronics. Your deathwish has been answered, and the cataclysmic beats haunt your conscience as you travel through the dense tunnels of your subconscious. Remember, you’re just the pawn that he’d use for his mind-numbingly harsh and bombastic drums, as he cuts your escape off and forces you right into the corner. Sharp synthesizers slice through your eardrums, crisp noise crash into your auditory canal. It’s everything one could expect from a side-step into electronica, harsh rhythmic noise – with a heavy dose of industrial. The guideline for it all is techno, taken from the deepest and most intriguing batch of that hardline genre. Anyway, I was side-stepping a little bit too much when it comes to this album. But from what you can hear, it’s actually really good. So therefore, I’ve been allowed to share an exclusive song with you from this album. It’s titled “She’s Got Damage“, and you can stream it exclusively from Invisible Guy – down below.

Interview with Michael B. Wood of The Anxiety Of Love!

The Anxiety Of Love, oh how they are undiscovered. They might wish to remain that way, but in this shrouded cloud of mystery – you find a great dose of melancholy, but on a whole other level. They are compromised of Michael, who’s got a history of being in different interesting bands, like Joan Of Arc Family – for example. He’s also the singer of this band, alongside Paul who play the guitar have been in Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Sailor on the bass guitar is in Clockwork Alters, and Solomon is their household drum-machine. Together with the occasional visit of Tobias, who seem to be floating around in a void. Every single one of these members have been involved in one band or another. They’ve earlier released a bunch of songs by themselves, but more recently, they’ve gotten a 7¨ released by Tujunga Flats, and will have another 7¨ out on Peripheral Minimal later on in Autumn. With that said, they’ve recently mailed out their self-released CDr bootleg titled “Soap In The Blood“. So one can say that they’ve got a lot going for them right now. I would consider them to be unique in many ways, which is why I’m even remotely interested in them in the first place. Michael B. Wood of the band contacted me and all we ended up with was this beautifully melancholic interview. He talks about life-changing incidents, the band itself, how they cope with their melancholy, what their melancholy means, the importance of silence, how alike Lebanon Hanover and they are – and much more. Exclusive Premiere: Os Ovni – No Time Static Hide

The clock is ticking, time is running out. We’re just here to be with you for a while. The duo Os Ovni have been releasing their delightful mixture of synth-pop, minimal synth and dream pop, also channeling other differentiating electronica that can be hard to put together – since 2010. The duo consists of Logan Owlbeemoth and Omebi Velouri, whom have been performing together beneath various experimental electronic aliases in a period of 15 years. By the way, did you know that “Os Ovni” actually means “The UFO” in Portuguese? Now you know. Back in 2010, they released the single “Something In The Sky” on Answering Machine Recordings. A year after that, they followed it up with a split-release with Modern Witch, which got placed on the label Tundra Dubs. After a lot of moving around on different labels, releasing a split with Blue On Blue and then thundering on to participate in yet another split-release with TWINS, they’ve finally settled down and decided to release an album of their own. Together with their soothing love for specific sci-fi, our cosmos and everything in between – Os Ovni have been planning a release which goes by the name of “Lets Leave Reality“. Matt Weiner of Featureless Ghost have been the overseer when it comes to the production of this particular album. Something Cold Records have gotten the honor to release this, and this is probably what further cements their wish to turn away from reality and embrace space. I must say that this record is oozing of minimalism, twirling synthesizers, space-y virtual rooms that places oneself into their cybernetic shoes. Invisible Guy has gotten the honor to premiere a single from their album, and more to come, but first up is “No Time Static Hide” – the fifth song on this eight-tracked album. You can listen and stream the song down below, so you can get more of a taste of what’s coming in November. I also asked Justin Carver of Something Cold (Records) about the release itself and what’s on the menu in the near future.

Last year you released a compilation of tracks, and now you’re going to release an album by Os Ovni. What can you tell us about this?

– I’ve been a fan of Os Ovni since I first heard their split 7″ with Modern Witch. Their music always stood out amongst other minimal electronic bands because of how harmonious their vocals were on top of very fragile synth work. I was able to meet them firsthand when they performed in Detroit for Something Cold in December of 2011. The show took place in a very weird little banquet hall in Mexicantown! Their performance blew me away, they had the most simplistic set up but filled the room with the most psychedelic synth waves. From then on out we stayed in touch and I continued to follow their releases and excellent video work they do (Tachyons+). Their track on the Something Cold compilation was one of the albums most well received tracks, so one day I told Logan when you’re ready, I’d be happy to release your debut LP. Him and Omebi agreed to let us release it for them! They are both incredibly hardworking musicians and I’m proud to be working with them.

What was the original purpose of Something Cold records?

– Simply to release new (and rediscover old) exciting music within the minimal electronic, industrial and wave underground on vinyl. I’ve been running the Something Cold parties in Detroit since 2009, so moving forward and starting a label seemed like the next logical step. My friend Jason Amm (Suction Records/Solvent) has provided an enormous amount of help with the label and helping it come together.

Since your first release has been sold out now for some time, what kind of reactions did it get?

– I was surprised with how fast it sold out and how well received it was. I’ve gotten a few emails from people who picked it up on a whim in record stores and wrote to express their enjoyment and curiosity about the label/party. It’s cool to see tracks from the LP pop up on playlists from radio shows and DJs around the world. Thankfully, while it is sold out, it’s not being price gouged on Discogs or Ebay yet!

Are you going to release anything else in the near future on Something Cold records?

– Absolutely. We’re talking to a few artists at the moment about our next releases. Expect it out around the first of this coming year. We also plan on doing a limited repress of the initial Something Cold compilation LP eventually as well.

Premiere: Colornoise – Pieces [FREE DOWNLOAD]

Does it seem to be noisey in here? No, I’m not talking about Noisey – a part of the VICE network. I’m actually talking about color. It’s all about Colornoise, this time. A duo consisting of Sonya Carmona and Alison Alvarado, two girls from Costa Rica whom produce highly interesting experimental noise rock, with hints of garage rock and post-punk. A vital part of their machinery, which has already been mounting an offensive next to acts such as Björk, the Flaming Lips and Skrillex in Costa Rica – last year. Everything from their eerie vocals, to their more chaos-ridden medleys, are sifting through the outskirts of each genre. Their latest album, which I’m taking a song from, is called “Polychronic“. It’s their second studio album, up to date. This is rock’n’roll from the wastelands, combined with a sweet and sour relationship of the entrenched jungles – to the cosmic journeys of the astronaut. Some of their material on this particular album is different from the other, once a ballad-like entry into their wounded souls – never a ballad. Because once you think it’s all like that, you get interrupted and roughed up by their magnificent sound. Changing from the post-punk droopiness, to putting an angel in that place, til’ the dawn comes and they slowly move forward with an experimentally charged rock-edge. It is also noticeable that their singing is very much inspired by Siouxsie of Siouxsie and the Banshees. Even though it’s really not what I’m here for, their sound is uniquely and as transparent as it should be in any situation. Changeable, thematic, but still as intriguing as if they would’ve put every track out in that manner. For your sake, my readership, you’ll get a taste of Colornoise a little bit closer to your ears. Because you’ll be able to download their song “Pieces“, from their album “Polychronic” – exclusively from Invisible Guy.
