Poplight: unmo × mitsugo – ロアレ

Sometimes I can’t really stand pop. But there are limitations to that. For once, pop that I can stand has to be either experimental or Japanese. This time around, it’s Japanese and dreamy. Two combinations that are made to be matched with each other, as the J-pop I’ve heard have always been slightly more dreamy and melodic than everything else. With few exceptions, of course. But this is electronic mixed with pop, which brings out an essence of dream-pop and a different edge to it overall. It’s matched beats with pop overtones, that heads out to be in the more classical vein. At least if you consider it from this perspective. So head on, go and listen to their dreamy variation of pop meets electronica. You can listen to it over at their bandcamp or stream it directly on Invisible Guy. It was released today, the 11th of March.

Spotlight: Tsar Bomba – Silent Queen

The classic vein of sludge metal and doom metal, with black metal influences. Throw in some overtly noticeable hardcore at times and you have Tsar Bomba. A band you should check out, the singer is absolutely amazing and the radical notion of black metal paired with these beasts of genres is probably unheard of. At least if you’ve checked how things are recently. This Paris-based band released their record “Silent Queen” on the smaller label Hellbound Records today on the 11th of March. Another thing should be mentioned, they also have some parts that are paired with acoustic music. I must say that they pull of this uncommon mixture of genres pretty well, so go over to bandcamp and listen for yourself or stream it here on Invisible Guy down below.

Review: Xiu – Possession EP (C26)

1503951570-1Darker, meaner and even more out of touch with reality. In this virtual world, Xiu prevails as the strongest of the cast. Since her last effort on aufnahme + wiedergabe, she’s reached another step on the ladder. With the opening song “Leaving In The Night“, everything is tuned into the suggestive and otherworldly reach of human senses. Extending the period of wobbly arpeggios, dampened catharsis and almost spiritual tell-tale. The whispering voice of Oksana Rodinova is in a microcosm in itself, virtually shredding every other hope of a departure without an angst filled and apathetic sound. Bridging a gap between her cold wave and ethereal state of mind, with the minimal synth to synth-pop extravaganza. Coated with a layer of dark wave, jump-starting our synapse, pushing it into the floating spectrum between careful dementia and a brighter light of darkness.
